:: 3 Bedroom Villa
:: Sleeps up to 6 guests
For something different, delightful and
secluded, we are happy to tell you about our friend
Philippos’ house. He doesn’t advertise nor rent out
commercially elsewhere but feels happy to offer his country
home through us. I should point out that we are not tour
operators in any sense and, once in Corfu, your contact would
be Philippos and the house, maid service etc. is his
responsibility. However, for both your peace of mind, and ours,
Nico will be around too and you will have his mobile number.
Situated on the south west coast near to
Corfu’s large saltwater lake, Korission, the locality has
been designated a nature conservation area and bird sanctuary.
This area draws local Greeks at the weekend for its superb
swimming but is never busy as the location is somewhat tucked
away and off the “beaten track.” As a car would be
essential, we offer this villa with a small car included in the
rental price.
Halikounas does have a few other houses
but is sparsely populated and you will not be disturbed by
anyone. The hamlet boasts, however, one of the very finest
tavernas on the island. Owned and run by a Greek family, the
Alonaki is unique, with each table surrounded by vegetation and
flowering shrubbery, with waiters tip-toeing down mini garden
paths to approach your table. The food is home cooked each day,
depending on what was best in the market, and is so famous in
its long held reputation that Corfiots travel down especially
to eat there. Alonaki’s setting overlooks the tiny
fishing cove below with steps down to the private beach. The
nearby village of Ag. Matheos (St. Matthew) is no more than
2kms away and has everything you will require – grocers,
a doctor’s surgery, butchers, bakers and (honestly!)
candle stick makers. Nearby, you’ll find the ancient
caves of a Palaeolithic settlement to explore and the ruins of
a Byzantine fortress (if you’re lucky enough to there at
the right time, the fort hosts wonderful outdoor concerts). The
least developed part of the island, this area provides plenty
of opportunities for gorgeous picnics and long walks.

What Our Visitors Said
| |||||||||||||
The villa was very peaceful and met our
needs tremendously. We would return. Thanks very much for
organising everything. The holiday was very good and enjoyed by
all.

Tricky to find the first time (but well
sign-posted with Philippos’ hand-carved signs), at the
end of a farm road, the villa is isolated by the island’s
oldest olive groves and vineyards, with no other houses
visible. The surrounding private gardens, enclosed by lockable
gates, are well planted with various species and are wild
enough for the children to play and hide to their hearts’
content, searching for the resident tortoises and geckos.
Villa Kissos has a compact, above-ground
pool approximately 1 meter deep and 3 metres in diameter.
Parents can rest safely nearby in a hammock under the tree or
turn their hand to cooking lunch on the barbecue. At the end of
the garden is Phillipos’ and Mary’s orchard and
they would be quite happy for you to pick your own breakfast of
sun-ripened grapefruits, apples, pears and figs.
The island’s most spectacular
beaches are yours for the taking but a short stroll away,
across the dunes – truly white golden sands and crystal
clean blue seas. A car would be a necessity for this holiday
but Villa Kissos is not as cut off as it might appear –
for example, the nightlife of Moraitika or fish tavernas of
Boukari, on the eastern coast, are only 7 kms away as this is
the narrowest part of the island (see map of Corfu). St. George
is 12 kms away, with its Jetskis and paragliding and
magnificent boat trip to Paxos and you are well situated to
discover much of the island’s beauty.
The villa is encircled on three sides by
an ivy-clad, covered verandah – Kissos means ivy in Greek
– and the house is spacious enough for six people without
treading on each other’s toes. The huge family room and
open plan kitchen are very well equipped, cool and roomy and
there is a fireplace for those early or late bookings, when the
evenings may turn chilly. The furniture is traditional Corfiot
country style and you’ll find paintings and personal
touches all around you as well as a television and hi-fi
system.
All the windows are fitted with mosquito
screens and everything has been arranged with maximum comfort
in mind. Downstairs the master bedroom has an ensuite marble
bathroom, and there is the spacious twin room and a further
family bathroom with bath tub. The upstairs loft twin bedroom
is a particular favourite with children. All bedlinen and
towels are provided (not beach towels).
This is a very special, very private house
that is beautifully maintained by the owners – please do
not hesitate to call us with any questions. We look forward to
hearing from you in due course.
